Success Stories: Immigrant Visa Based on Marriage Issued to Mexican National at the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez

Photo by melissa mjoen on Unsplash. Consular processing occurs when you get your immigrant visa outside of the United States, normally in your country of citizenship or residence at a U.S. Consulate or Embassy, as opposed to applying directly for permanent residence inside of the United States with the USCIS which is called an adjustment of status.

We recently received an approval for an immigrant visa for a Mexican national based on marriage to her U.S. Permanent Resident Spouse at the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez. Congratulations to our clients!

Both U.S. Citizens and Legal Permanent Residents (green card holders) can petition for their spouses. Spouses of U.S. citizens are considered "immediate relative" petitions and are not subject to any limitation on visa issuance-- meaning that there is always a visa available.

Spouses of legal permanent residents are considered "family preference" petitions and therefore could be subject to backlogs; however, in recent years the category for spouses of legal permanent residents has usually been current. Please note that processing times can vary significantly between different USCIS service centers and different U.S. Consulates abroad, especially due to current closures and backlogs caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

We have many years of experience representing individuals in their family based immigration petitions. Immigration can be complicated-- let us guide you through the process smoothly.
